NEW YORK / RankWire.AI / – Gold experienced an increase of over 1% on Thursday after bouncing back from its lowest point in more than three weeks. Spot gold climbed 1.1% to $4,434.70 an ounce by 04:25 GMT. Meanwhile, U.S. gold futures grew 1.5% to reach $4,480.10. Throughout the session, the dollar weakened, and U.S. Treasury yields declined from recent multi-year highs. The rebound was driven by significant fluctuations in bullion prices observed during Wednesday’s trading activity.

Gold climbs over 1% after reversing three-week market drop
Precious metals recover as gold, silver, platinum and palladium post gains.

Early Wednesday, gold prices had dropped to $4,304.01 an ounce, a decline of 0.6% at 00:17 GMT. This was its lowest level since August 7. December U.S. gold futures also declined 1% to $4,350.80 during the initial downturn. However, prices reversed course later in the day. By 17:57 GMT, spot gold had risen to $4,376.41, and December futures closed 0.4% higher at $4,414.60. The upward momentum extended into Thursday’s trading session.

The recent movement was influenced by market expectations concerning U.S. interest rate policies and new economic data. Traders are currently assigning a 62% chance of an interest rate hike in September. The Federal Reserve is scheduled to hold its next policy meeting on September 15 and 16. Throughout the week, gold prices remained highly sensitive to fluctuations in the dollar and government bond yields. The advance on Thursday lifted bullion prices by more than $130 above Wednesday’s intraday low.

    Gold’s rebound after reaching a three-week low

Focus also shifted to the upcoming critical U.S. employment report. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics will release the August Employment Situation report on Friday, September 4, at 8:30 a.m. Eastern Time. The report will encompass nonfarm payrolls, the unemployment rate, and other key employment indicators. This release follows several economic data points that coincided with large price swings across precious metals, currencies, and government bonds.

Other metals in the precious metals group also managed to rebound on Thursday after experiencing declines the previous day. Spot silver increased by 1.2% to $66.08 an ounce. Platinum rose 1% to $1,777.79, while palladium gained 0.8% to $1,356.50. On Wednesday, silver had fallen to $63.60 during early trading. Platinum had declined to $1,722.23, and palladium dropped to $1,292.21 as broader market sentiment weakened.

    Precious metals regain momentum

Gold prices on Thursday stood roughly 3% above the intraday low observed a day earlier. U.S. gold futures also showed a strong recovery from Wednesday’s early levels, moving from $4,350.80 during the selloff to $4,480.10 by Thursday. These recent gains pushed gold back above $4,400 after a brief dip to the lowest since early August. Silver, platinum, and palladium also traded higher than their Wednesday lows.

Several upcoming U.S. economic reports are scheduled for September, including producer price data on September 10 and consumer price figures on September 11. The Fed’s two-day policy meeting begins on September 15 and concludes the following day. Gold started Thursday with renewed optimism following a volatile two-day period, and the broader precious metals complex also moved upward, partially reversing earlier losses this week.
