WASHINGTON / RankWire.AI / – The U.S. Treasury Department plans to conduct three auctions next week, totaling $119 billion in notes and bonds. The schedule kicks off on Oct. 6 with a $58 billion offering of three-year notes. On Oct. 7, Treasury will sell $39 billion of 10-year notes, followed by a final auction on Oct. 8 featuring $22 billion of 30-year bonds. These offerings are in line with Treasury’s usual financing timetable and match the sizes outlined in its latest quarterly refunding schedule.

The new issue of the three-year note will mature on Oct. 15, 2029. Meanwhile, the 10-year security will be reopened as an existing 4.625% note that matures on Aug. 15, 2036. The 30-year bond being offered again is a 5.125% security that matures on Aug. 15, 2056. Reopening an existing security allows the Treasury to increase the outstanding amount without changing the coupon rate or maturity date. Investors have the option to submit competitive or noncompetitive bids through Treasury’s standard auction process.
All securities will settle on Oct. 15, according to the schedule published by the U.S. Treasury Department. In competitive bidding, investors specify the yield they are willing to accept, while noncompetitive bidders agree to accept the yield determined at auction. Following each sale, Treasury releases the final bid and pricing data, including the high yield, accepted bids, and allotment details. Treasury notes and bonds pay fixed interest and are significant components of the federal marketable debt.
Three consecutive debt sales scheduled by Treasury
The October auctions follow similar offerings in September for the same 10-year and 30-year securities. On Sept. 9, Treasury sold $39 billion of the 10-year note, which yielded a high of 4.834%. The auction attracted roughly $105.8 billion in bids, resulting in a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.71. This note has a 4.625% coupon and matures in August 2036. The October reopening will add another $39 billion to the amount of that note currently outstanding.
Similarly, on Sept. 10, Treasury sold $22 billion of the 30-year bond, which achieved a high yield of 5.308%. Investors submitted bids totaling about $57.5 billion, leading to a bid-to-cover ratio of 2.61. This bond carries a 5.125% coupon and matures in August 2056. The upcoming auction will see an additional $22 billion of this security issued. The final yield, price, accepted bids, and allotment data will be published after the sale concludes on Thursday.
Match between auction sizes and October financing plan
These auctions are part of a broader borrowing strategy for the last quarter of 2026. Treasury projected $628 billion of net marketable borrowing for October through December, assuming an end-of-year cash balance of $850 billion. The federal government funds marketable debt through routine sales of bills, notes, bonds, and other securities. Issuance levels across maturities are adjusted via Treasury’s established financing procedures, which also involve publishing auction schedules and borrowing forecasts for investors.
The total of $119 billion aligns with the amounts detailed in Treasury’s August financing plan for October. This schedule called for $58 billion in three-year notes, $39 billion in 10-year notes, and $22 billion in 30-year bonds. The sequence begins with the three-year auction on Tuesday, followed by the 10-year on Wednesday, and the 30-year on Thursday. After each auction, Treasury will publish the official results, including pricing, yields, and demand figures, related to next week’s three U.S. government debt offerings.
